LaDaSa church to allow prophet to pick his name 'like the popes do'

SALT LAKE CITY - The LaDaSa church announced today that the next prophet will be able to change his name upon becoming president of the church, similar to how popes pick a new name. Since 1555 each pope has chosen a new name upon his ascension to the papacy. The LaDaSa church thinks that's a good idea.

Spokesman Bruce McDunnough explains: "This very much goes hand in hand with the fact that each new president of the church chooses to emphasize of focus on some aspect of Mormonism during their term. President Benson chose the Book of Mormon and President Hunter chose temples, for example."

So can we expect to see "President Reverence" or "President Service" in the near future?

"No, it won't be a formal name like the popes. Think of it more along the lines of a descriptor. We'll use President Monson as an example. He could have been 'President Monson the Tither' or 'President Monson the Home Teacher'".

Whoever the next prophet is will have the honor of starting a new tradition that has its roots in the distant past.
