Church comments on "Wear Pants to Church", Hymnbook changes

Salt Lake City - Today the LDS Church issued a statement  through spokesman Bruce McDunnough regarding the recent "Wear Pants to Church Day" movement, as well as the "Let a Woman Pray in General Conference" push. Mr. McDunnough also addressed upcoming changes to the LDS hymnbook.

"The church has long advocated, when possible, for members to attend church in their 'Sunday best'", McDunnough said. "We recognize that Sunday best is defined differently in many areas around the world. Beyond that definition, we offer no counsel".

Regarding the push to have women pray in the church's Semi-Annual conferences McDunnough stated, "As you know women speak during each conference. The prayer assignments are given by the First Presidency months in advance. It's not inconceivable that in a future conference a sister would offer one of the prayers."

McDunnough continued, "We love to hear from all of our members, especially when they have concerns. Sometimes we wish things weren't done quite so publicly. In a totally unrelated matter, and I can't stress enough how unrelated this is, the church has decided that it is time to overhaul and shorten the hymnbook to save on printing costs. The best way we feel to reach this goal is to remove verses three and four from hymn 292. In the future we will look at other changes as well."

The changes to the hymnbook are expected to take place in time for April general conference.
